Winter is indubitably here, the chill of the weekend’s big freeze is still hanging heavy in the air and there is snow and ice lying on the hills. What we need to bring a glow to the office at Technical Translations is Hagent, the robot personifying cutting edge heat technology.
Actually, Hagent, designed by German inventors Andreas Meinhardt and Daniel Abendroth, doesn’t really fit the popular image of what a robot should look like in its current form, a simple black box, but the concept behind its design and the technology embedded in it is very interesting indeed. Imagine being able to collect excess heat from a certain part of your home (the fireside, or next to a radiator perhaps) and distribute it in those rooms or areas in need of a little warming up.
Having caught our eye, we at Technical Translations had quite a look round the web for more on this invention, but there is very little information out there yet as to how Hagent works. The technology behind the idea is said to be based around the use of phase change material that melts or solidifies at certain temperatures, to store the energy. We do not know whether it is able to detect cold spots automatically or it needs to be instructed as to where to do the heat sharing, but we can see that in principle, at least, possession of such a piece of hardware when it comes to market, could translate into reduced electricity bills and heating costs.
