Cloud technology translates into benefits of working remotely
28-Jul-2011
As we have previously reported,
Technical Translations are the champions of a cloud-based technology that allow our project managers to work from home or remotely, while allowing them full access to company data which means they can carry out their day-to-day tasks just as efficiently as they would be able to while sitting in an office.
Technical Translations staff all work remotely and are connected online via a shared portal for data collection, dissemination and project management.
It is becoming more widely recognised that cloud technologies are able to present British employees with flexible working opportunities, according to Ian Osborne, project director at Intellect. Mr Osborne commented that workers have had "a realisation" with respect to the cloud.
"The rail strikes and snow [problems] over the year have given people the realisation that actually you can do a lot of what you do in the office at home, without the hassle of getting there and back," he stated.
Recent research by Virgin Media Business has turned up an enormous disparity in the views held by employers as against workers when it comes to the adoption of cloud services in the workplace, with six in ten workers in favour of having access to cloud services while only one in ten companies currently utilise them.
Melandra Smith, Senior Project Manager for
Technical Translations says: “There is a serious lack of faith in the principle of cloud-based employees and a change of mind will probably take time, especially with more traditionally focussed businesses. However, we have found workers to be happier and more productive since we started to operate our cloud-based system, and it is a decision we are very pleased to have made.”
